The Saskatchewan Way
Safeguard Saskatchewan: Protecting our public services
Public services make Saskatchewan a great place to live. We have built our province by working together to ensure that all citizens have equal access to vital services, like health and education.
So why is Brad Wall's government trying to dismantle the very things that make our province strong?
The Brad Wall government's threat
The Brad Wall government has said it will cut public service jobs by 15 per cent over the next four years. That means thousands of public service workers will disappear. When they are gone, there will be fewer people to:
- care for kids in crisis
- maintain roads and highways
- safeguard us from workplace hazards
- preserve our provincial parks.
Why risk it?
Cutting the services that your family relies on is short-sighted and risky. Our parents and grandparents built those services to make life better for all of us. Why would we risk pulling all that down now, when our families and communities need strength and stability? We have to think about the future, and what's good for all of us in the long run.
If we lose these services now, we may never get them back. Why risk it?
An economic boost
Saskatchewan’s public services not only make our province a safer and healthier place to live, they help drive local economies.
Fueling your local economy
- Government workers’ wages are re-invested in Saskatchewan businesses -- in local grocery stores, restaurants and gas stations. The economic spin-offs generated by public sector jobs help fuel the economy of Saskatchewan’s cities, towns and rural communities.
- Nearly 30 per cent of the province’s jobs are provided by federal, provincial, and municipal government services and crown corporations.
- For every two provincial public service jobs in your community, a third spin-off job is created.
Part of your community
The people who provide your public services enrich your community and your life.
They are members of your family, your friends and neighbors. Their kids go to local schools. You might find your local highways worker at the rink coaching the town's hockey team.
The people who provide public services make a positive contribution to your community -- in so many ways.
Strong public services keep our communities safe and healthy
Let's ensure that the short-sighted actions of the Brad Wall government don't put our families and communities at risk.
Tell your local Member of the Legislature (MLA) that cutting public services puts our province at risk. Instead of tearing our services apart, let's work together to continue to build strong families and communities.
It's the Saskatchewan way.
